Cocopah Downs Horse Races

One of the extra activities here at Cocopah was this evening potluck and Horse race.

The tables were decorated and each table enjoyed their potluck food and drinks before the races began.

We had 6 horses to bet on...

and as the dice are rolled the horse moves the allotted squares.  It was a laugh a minute.  We ended up only losing $5.00 on the 3 different races.

It has been a fun and busy two weeks.  Becky has been getting at least 2 golf games a week with Ladies 9-hole club. She also signed up for the Red & Blue Tournament which put her on the golf course at 8:00 in the morning to play 18-holes.  Two of us were on the red team and two on the blue team.  We all had very high handicaps so it ended up we were the last to finish playing the 18-holes scramble.  The Blue team captain even came looking for us we were so late getting in.

We have also been enjoying the Wednesday Movie and Dinner with the Escapee Boomers that are wintering here in Yuma.

On Friday, Jan 16th we drove the 80 miles to Quartzsite for the Escapee Big Sky Chapter Rally business meeting.  We normally camp in Q each year with this group but decided to try something different this year.  Because we are Officers it was important that we attend the business meeting.

We arrived in time for the Bean Bag Baseball Game.

New Officers were elected and some stayed on for another term like Lonnie and Becky.

It seems there is a traveling trophy here in Cocopah and our neighbor across the road is now the proud owner of it for the next few weeks.  I did not find out how he won it but it is an interesting piece.

Until next time....

Escapee Boomers in Yuma

Escapee Boomer group gathered for a Potluck

We are really enjoying our time here in Yuma.  Becky has joined the Ladies 9-hole and Red Hat Ladies 9-hole groups so she can golf at least 2 days a week.  The Ladies 9-hole has a $3 entry fee for prizes and Becky took first in her handicap division on her first game, winning $6.  We're making money now!  Besides golf we have enjoyed the Soup Night Potluck in the clubhouse that included soups, salads and deserts.  Each Wednesday we get together with the Boomers for Movie and dinner.

We joined the Boomers on Saturday at Ron and Sharon Mead's house in the Yuma Foothills for a patio party.  There were 70 plus Boomers attending the Potluck.

It gave us a chance to visit with RV friends like Donna Huffer and Bob Parker that we have not seen in a long time.  Donna and Bob were instrumental in getting us started with the Escapees.

Betty Anderson, Duane Peyton, and Bill Pollock.

Gisela and Bill Pollock who we chased all the way from Florida to Arizona.  They beat us to Arizona by a day.

Betty Anderson and Becky.

Chuck and Jan Moore.  We have camped and met with them at Boomer functions.

Marge and Tom Maloney.  Friends we have made over the years.  They spend most of their time in Yuma now.

Bea and Ken Marler keep in touch with us through Facebook.

The patio just barely held all of us.

Ron provided the hot dogs...

Everyone else brought something to share.  No one went home hungry.

We all enjoyed the beautiful 74 degree day to visit and catch up on each others travels.  A lot of them are on the way to Quartzsite (80 miles north of Yuma) to dry camp on the desert for 2 weeks at Boomerville.  There have been as many as 120 rigs at Boomerville making for a fun group to camp with.  We will be staying in Yuma this year so Becky can work on her golf game.

Next Stop Yuma, Arizona

January 1, 2015
Cocopah RV & Golf Resort
Yuma, AZ

We did the drive from Benson to Yuma, AZ, stopping in Eloy to fuel up the Motorhome with the cheapest Diesel we have found so far at $2.79 a gallon.  That is a long ways from the $4.00 we paid in New York state in September.  We got settled into our Site on the 29th and prepared for the New Years Eve Party.
Cocopah RV & Golf Resort is a beautiful place to stay.  We signed up to stay here until March 7 when we will go to Tucson for Escapees Escapades.

They have a great HEATED swimming pool..

Clubhouse, Cantina, golf shop, restaurant, many amenities and activities.  It will feel good to sit in one place for a while.

New Years Eve we joined Bill & Veta Swires at a table to make new friends, enjoy a prime rib dinner, live music and dancing.

We also found some old friends like Kay Krasovetz

Bill and Veta Swires, our friends, we camped at their house in Atwater, Illinois on our way East in September.  They are also staying here through January so we will get to spend more time together.

We made some new friends like Dave and Sharon Church that are from Rifle, Colorado...

Debbie and Kent Benham
Our Boomer friends Kay and Steve Krasovetz are camped across the road from us.  Better known as "The Margarita Boomers" because they always bring the big margarita machine to Boomer Happy Hours.

The room was decorated beautifully and we all enjoyed the party...
music and dancing.  It was a fun evening.

After a few drinks, things started getting interesting with the fake mustaches that were handed out as we entered.

We actually made it to midnight to toast in 2015.

The temperatures have been pretty chilly with lows in the 30's and highs in the 50's but it is suppose to be back into the 70's by Monday, so Becky can start hitting some golf balls around.

We wish you all a Happy New Year,
Becky and Lonnie
