Becky's Birthday

Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015
Yuma, AZ

Becky ordered herself a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland last month and it arrived just days before her birthday.  We are loving her birthday present.  It is taking a while to learn all the new buttons including the start button.  No key??  It is a whole new world of cars.  Her birthday present from her children was a new iPod with bluetooth connection so she can play her music on the car stereo system.  No more CD players, just a lot of USB ports in the new cars.  For a price ($35 a month) you can turn your car into a wifi hot spot to get internet for all your devices anywhere.  Since we have Verizon internet, we passed on this option.  They did help her download her phone contact list into the car so we can make and receive calls or text messages via voice. Lots of fun stuff to explore.

Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 - Becky attended the Awards lunch for the Golf Challenge Tournament.  They caught this picture of her at the luncheon.  Our team of 5 players took first place in our division. We had the second best score for all the divisions.

Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 - Wednesday's are Escapee Boomer Movie and dinner day.  It just happened to land on Becky's birthday so we joined 20 Boomers after the movie "Kingsman, Secret Service" at Mariscos Mar Azul for Seafood Mexican dinner.

All the Boomers sang Happy Birthday to Becky.

It is always fun to be surrounded by our RV friends on such a special occasion.

Fisher Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep allowed us to keep our Liberty for a week so we could get the new car outfitted with towing equipment and have this cover custom made for towing.

It fits really tight protecting the front and windshield from rocks and debris while hooked behind the Motorhome.  We had to practice putting it on.  Specialty Sewing Senter here in Yuma makes these towing covers in a day.  They took the car at 8:00 and had it finished by 5:00.  It is felt lined and clips or snaps around the fenders and front grill.

Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 - We took a drive to Imperial, CA to have dinner with Tense and Idell Burden.  Becky finally got her birthday cake in the form of a Red Cake Cupcake from Costco.  It is nice to enjoy a week of birthday instead of just a day.

Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, CA

Friday, February 6, 2015
Borrego Springs, CA
Life in Yuma has been so busy with golfing and activities that we have not had time to catch up our Blog.  One of our day trips was to Borrego Springs near the Salton Sea.

Our friends from Illinois, Bill and Veta Swires joined us to see the sculpters at Galleta Meadows and a great lunch at Carmelita's Mexican Grill in Borrego Springs.
Wild Horses along Borrego Springs Road on South side of town.

Crafted of metal by Ricardo Breceda of Perris, California.  Breceda is a former construction welder who created his first metal dinosaur in 1998.

He was commissioned by Dennis Avery (owner of Avery office supplies), owner of Galleta Meadows to sculpt camels, sloths, turtles, mammoths, wild horses, dinosaurs and other creatures that once roamed the Anzo-Borrego.

This is one of our favorites with the snake in it's claws coming to the nest to feed her babies.

It is located along Borrego Springs Road as you enter the town of Borrego Springs along with the wild horses.

Every feather is hand crafted and welded into place.

Even the babies are life like with a real eye for detail.

North of town on Big Horn Road we found this scorpion which Bill got caught by.

The grasshopper with it's mesh wings.

A lot bigger than life size.

Along the same road are these workers in a vineyard.  Each worker has a different face.

Each grape carefully constructed and welded.

The Serpent is the most famous of all his sculptures with it's gigantic rattlesnake tail is 350' long snaking under Borrego Springs Road.

It took 4 months to build and 3 months to install in the field.

It is an amazing piece of work.

The head reminds you of a Chinese Dragon.

Bill and Lonnie will give you an idea of the size.

Four Wheeling can be found at the intersection of Borrego Spring Road and Henderson Canyon Road.

Again, he put in details such as hair and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes in the drivers pocket.  Even the tread on the wheels are detailed.

Spanish Frier that came to Southern California.

Check out the Rosary made of stones.

Golden Indian on Henderson Canyon Road.

Turtles of all sizes are found at the Gates to Galleta Meadows. We have found Geocaches on the turtles.  There are geocaches on many of the metal sculptures but we didn't take time to look for them today.

The public is welcome to enter Galleta Meadows but no motorcycles or camping is allowed.

On Stagecoach Way we found the prospector and Big Horn Sheep.

Brecedo detailed the bedroll, shovel, food sacks, etc.. on the burro.

The Prospector has been making money.  There are also coins in the tin cup hanging on the burrow.

The goats...

fighting rams.

Ancient Tortoises.

Wild Pig and babies.

It just isn't complete without a T-Rex on the South side of town off Borrego Springs Road.  This can be found on the other side of the road from the wild horses.

Raptor and Pig..

Each sculpture is numbered and there is probably a book that tells about each one in the Borrego Springs Art Museum but we didn't take time to check it out.

Yuma, AZ

Becky ordered a new Jeep last month and expected it to arrive around February 18, in time for her birthday.  We got the call today that it had arrived earlier than expected.  It is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland in Deep Cherry Red, which sort of matches the stripe on our Motorhome.  Yuma is the town to get tow bars and braking systems installed since it is RV City in the winter months.  This is why we decided to purchase the Jeep here so we could get the towing equipment installed by experts.

The next day we joined Bill and Veta at Julieanna's Patio Cafe for lunch.  The outdoor dining patio has beautiful birds to watch as you enjoy lunch.  The birds go home at sunset so they are only out for the lunch crowd.

Our weather has been beautiful with sunshine and temps in the 80's making for lots of outdoor fun.
