Escapee Big Sky Chapter 28 Rally
July 22-26, 2014
Twin Falls, ID 83301
We hosted the summer rally for our Chapter in Twin Falls,
ID. Becky was able to get sites for
everyone in the Rock Creek RV Campground County Park on the west side of Twin
Falls. Tuesday evening we bought
Rotisserie Chicken, salads and desert for everyone as a host dinner. We had an Escapee guest who was traveling
southern Idaho this summer and came to join us.
Roger and Hattie Haeflinger are full timers originally from Ohio.
Roger and Hattie joined Chuck and Glenda Pershing for dinner. Chuck and Glenda traveled from Washington, UT for the Rally. They said it was getting very hot in southern Utah and were glad to come North for the rally. Our 95 degree temperatures probably didn't cool them off much |
Bill and Phyz Peck traveled from Placerville, California to visit Phyz's brother David Keever that lives in Twin Falls. David joined us for many of the events. Marge Wallace made the trip from Sonora, California. |
Tom and Carol Bezdeka made the trip from Hailey, ID where they are spending the summer |
Sandy and Warren Hill traveled from Boise, ID |
We rented this wonder pavilion to enjoy the various gatherings and activities during the rally. |
Wednesday morning we headed for the Snake River Canyon. Part of the group took the pontoon boat ride with Idaho Guides Service for a river trip under the Perrine Bridge to Pillar Falls while the other half walked the canyon rim trail from the visitors center. We were able to enjoy the many overlooks of the canyon and river below. We were able to see 3 BASE jumpers parachute from the bridge. Unfortunately it happened so fast Becky failed to get pictures. |
The boat ride on the Snake River was an hour long for each group and gave fantastic views of the bridge and canyon walls.
Our trip took us to the base of Pillar Falls. The water on the Snake River is very low so it was a very small water fall but still a beautiful sight.
We were able to get off the boat and walk around the rocks at Pillar Falls.
We gathered on the patio at Elevation 486 Restuarant overlooking the canyon for lunch.
Thursday morning we took a drive to some of the area State Parks. First stop was to Balance Rock.
The temperatures had dropped by 20 degrees from yesterday and the wind was pretty brisk in the canyon of Salmon Falls Creek
We traveled on to Ritter Island State Park with a stop at the Clear Springs Trout Farm to view the large rainbow trout and Sturgeon. After a picnic at Ritter Island and tour of the Ritter Island museum we took Highway 30 back towards Buhl, Idaho. We stopped off at Cloverleaf Dairy to sample their excellent ice cream. |
Thursday evening we took in the Twin Falls Municipal Band in the City Park. The band is the oldest municipal band in existence in the US. They have put on a summer concert since 1905.
Friday morning was free time and we all gathered in Becky and Lonnie's backyard for a "Burn your Own" dinner. After dinner we drove over to the College of Southern Idaho campus to the Herrett Planetarium for a movie on the Dome titled "Life of a Butterfly". We came back to enjoy the deserts after the movie and to celebrate Warren Hill's birthday. |
Saturday morning we had our "Mugs and Hugs" farewell party as everyone got ready to leave. It was a fun week for everyone. |
