Fall Colors of New Hampshire

Tuesday, Sept 30, 2014
Montpelier, VT
Limehurst Lake Campground

We left Bar Harbor on Monday morning and picked up Highway 2 out of Newport, Maine.  This highway will take us west across Maine, northern New Hampshire and into Vermont.  Highway 2 is called The Great Northern, beginning in Seattle and ending in Bar Harbor.  We drove this highway from Montana into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where it disappeared into Canada in 2010.  This is not the fastest route anywhere as you slow for every little town but it does have truck clearance and bridges.  It is interesting as it takes in little towns that don't have national chains such as McDonald's or Walmart.  I think we only saw one Walmart.  After just 3 hours of driving we only made it to the boarder of Maine and New Hampshire.  There was a Passport America Park so we stopped early for the night.

In the morning we headed into New Hampshire.  It was a cloudy start so Mount Washington was in the clouds.

White Mountains of New Hampshire would look so much better in sunshine.

The different shades of yellow, orange and red are amazing.

This looked like a fun place but not open when we came by.  Lots of roller coasters and Christmas themed amusement park.

The clouds started lifting as we crossed into Vermont.

Becky got kinda carried away taking pictures as we traveled Highway 2 towards Montpelier, VT.  We made it to Limehurst Lake Campground in Williamstown where we will stay for a few days to explore Vermont.  The campground had a Fantasy Tour group in it and we were lucky they had one spot left that would fit our 40' motorhome.  Our lucky day.  This is prime season for the Fall colors.  Lots to see and do around Montpelier.  More to come...
