Shrimp at Hunting Island State Park

Hunting Island State Park
South Carolina

We met Ann and Archie Chisholm in Mission, Texas last year and have kept in touch.  They were traveling from their home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, towards Florida for the winter and we knew they were stopping at Hunting Island so we made reservations here to meet up with them.  They arrived and we planned a dinner together.

This area is known for its Shrimp fishing so we went in search of some fresh shrimp for dinner just up the road from the State Park at The Gay Shrimp Company.

Lots of shrimp from the days catch.

She showed us a tiger shrimp that they had caught.  Every now and then they get one in the nets.

These are the large shrimp ready to cook.

Ann and Archie bought 2 lbs for our dinner.

We also bought a "Garlic Butter Crab & Shrimp Steam" spice that you put in the water and then steam the shrimp for about 10 minutes.

We enjoyed a great dinner of shrimp, salad, bread and Carolina Rice outside by the campfire.
It is a messy affair pealing the shrimp, but were they ever good!

While we visited after dinner we had some visitors come by. The camera flash didn't seem to bother them and they seem to be use to people following them around with cameras.

Our weather is fabulous.  Sunny and 75 degrees so we are enjoying it while we can.  On Friday it is suppose to rain and the temps will drop to 55.  We spent today at the beach collecting sea shells.
