Salem Witch Museum and Lobster

Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014
Littleton, MA
Minuteman Campground

This was the reason Becky wanted to visit Salem, MA.  Across the street was the Salem Green where each Halloween thousands of people gather to celebrate.  We were told the streets are blocked off and it becomes a big party.  We're glad we made the trip to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead as it had more history, and she was very disappointed with this museum.
The building outside looked impressive but what was inside was disappointing.  This Museum sat you in a large room where various dioramas light up to show the story of the testimony of hysterical girls, the suffering of the blameless victims, and the decisions of the judges who sent innocent people to their death.

This was Rebecca Nurse in her sick bed that she was dragged from to be put in jail, accused of being a witch.

The trial of Rebecca Nurse.  The jury had proclaimed her not guilty but when the girls started falling to the floor screaming, the judge told the jury to go back and try again.  She was then declared guilty and sentenced to hang.

After the 20 minute presentation, we were led into a hallway (no photos allowed) to be given the history of witches starting with pictures of modern day witches such as Bewitched, the Wizard of Oz, etc..  They proceeded to tell us about the time of Druids when the women healing with herbs were marked as witches, leading to the modern Wicca that worship mother earth.  Of course it ended with a trip through the gift shop.  In all it was not worth the hour and half battle through the traffic to get there or worth the admission price.

The day was not a total loss.  We were invited to Becky's niece's Lori & Rob Basnett's house for a lobster dinner.

Cute little guys.  They even make clicking noises.  The fall is the best time to buy Maine Lobsters as that is when 70% of them are harvested so the price is right.

Rob drops them into the pot.

They turn red when done.

Lori then takes them out of the pot and put them on a big cookie sheet.

We got our lessons in how to break them apart and get to the good stuff inside.

Dinner comes with nut crackers and seafood picks.

Yummm!!!

Rob shows us how to get the claw off.  You usually get lobster tails in restaurants but the claw has some of the best meat.

Daughter Hannah and Lori.

Becky really enjoyed getting to know her great-niece.  She has not seen her for 11 years so she has grown up a lot.  This week has not only been a discovery of the past but getting better acquainted with Hazen family of present.
